Importing Goods From US to the Philippines

November 16, 2008 · Print This Article

One of the most popular online businesses right now is importing goods from the USA to the Philippines. The sellers are usually partners or a group of people operating the site. There’s at least one person based in the Philippines who takes the orders, and at least one person in the USA who processes the orders.

Goods range from clothes, perfumes, bags, gadgets, and whatever else are available in the USA. Popular ordering sites are Old Navy, Gap, Target, Amazon, Sephora and Macy’s. The ordering is usually a pre-order. A 50% deposit is required in able to process your order, and the balance is due and payable once the order arrives in the Philippines. Waiting time ranges from 20-45 days. But the payment schedule policy protects both seller and buyer from fake transactions. It is actually a great way to earn money if you don’t have much of a capital. For businesses like this, a capital of about Php 30,000.00 - Php 40,000.00 may be enough for one batch of pre-orders. If you have a large customer-base, you might need at least Php 50,000.00 for capital.

For those who want to try this kind of business, find first the type of goods you want to import. Most sellers only accepts orders from specific websites. You also have to take into account the taxes and shipping fee from a website, if you will be ordering online as well. All these fees have to be considered when you give your potential buyers a quote.

Buyers also tend to be demanding. Even if you have already informed them that the waiting time may reach 45 days, most buyers will keep on pressing you if their orders have arrived already. So you have to always update them of the shipment status because some are quick to assume that the seller is a fake. And this is the one thing you don’t want to happen. Since online selling is virtual selling, your world wide web reputation is all you’ve got to make those sales!
