Teaching and Tutoring
August 1, 2008
One possible sideline is teaching or tutoring. This Gather discussion talks about whether it’s best to get certified — and set yourself up for a better first job — or save the money until you’ve taught a little bit and are sure it’s a good investment. The comments are pretty good, and I guess it all depends on whether you’d like to pick up a few hours of tutoring work, or make a career shift.
I’m seriously thinking about teaching English in China. Does certification or formal training help? I’m thinking about going in late spring or summer (assuming I get hired). That doesn’t leave me much time, but I was looking at CELTA. It’s a month of training and expensive, but if it may be worth the time and money.
Have you thought about that?
