Tertia’s Sideline

July 29, 2008

Tertia talks about the joys of her side project, which is recruiting and matching egg donors and recipients.

I love women, I really do. I know some women don’t like other women, but I am not one of those women. In fact, if I wasn’t straight, I would be gay. (yes, that was supposed to be silly).

Our little egg donor business* is going SO well, and one of the really cool things is that we are all women. By women, for women, with women. You’d think that it would be an emotional, bitchy nightmare, but it isn’t. Perhaps I am just lucky in that my partners and I (yes, we have GROWN to a team of four!! - new member to be announced shortly.) are all gorgeous and divine, but I am loving it. The thing I love is that we understand each other so well. We can be busy with a call about work and one of us will go “I am sorry, but I have to go throttle my child ask my child to keep quiet” and the rest of us will understand. Or someone will say “I can’t make our meeting, I am feeling miserable from hell and I wouldn’t be much good” and we are all like “totally understand”. It is so divine. I feel like these women care about ME and not just my ‘output’ or what I deliver. Love it, love them. Give me women over men any day!

* Go check out our website (www.nurture.co.za) We are so proud of our little business!!! Besides having my children, it is the most fulfilling thing I have ever done. It has done wonders for my self confidence, my sense of purpose, everything. I AM LOVING IT!!!

Pay Forever

July 26, 2008

Laurie Tam blogs about making money from home, and suggests Pay Forever:

These are great places to start on making money. I have recently joined a cash gifting thing and it’s great. I’m here to spread the word on what I am doing now and how you can too be able to make money at home as well.
First one is
Pays Forever
This one is a one time fee of $20 but the administration in order to get this same link is $9.
I will give you links to places to join where you can make money as well. I believe in helping each other in order to succeed with each other.

I’m a bit wary of sites that require a fee, though. Laurie seems to be making a success of it, hopefully she will share her adventures.

Blogging Idol

July 12, 2008

If you’re trying to increase your site’s readership — and who isn’t? — why not enter the Blogging Idol contest?

Show time! All the competitors have until the July 31 (midnight) to prove their blogging skills and to improve their RSS subscriber base.

As you can see on this page you will be able to follow the evolution of the feed count of each competitor, day by day. I will post a link here to all the future Blogging Idol posts as well, including to the weekly roundups with a description of the strategy used by each competitor, so you can just bookmark this and come here to check for updates.

Update: For all the competitors, please send your weekly mail every Saturday or Sunday, to daniel AT dailyblogtips.com.

Why not enter and try to win, since it’s what we’re all doing with our blogs anyway! Here are the entry rules:

The Rules

1. All participants must activate the Feedburner feed count at the beginning of the competition.
2. Participants will need to send a short email weekly (100-200 words), describing their strategies to gain RSS subscribes, and what they are doing on their blogs.
3. I will group all those emails and publish them on a single post every week, so that readers can follow and understand how participants are competing.
4. Blackhat methods will not be allowed, so you can’t fake stats, try to damage the blog of competitors and so on.
5. Paid promotion will not be allowed, else it would become a “who can spend more” contest. Any method where you need to spend money is not allowed therefore.
6. All other strategies and techniques are allowed (guest articles, contests where you don’t spend money, give-aways, controversial articles, free eBooks), so you are free to get creative
7. The winner will be the blogger that manages to increase his RSS subscriber base by the largest number (final count minus initial count).

Improve Your PageRank — The Paris Hilton Way!

July 12, 2008

Some advice from Making money on the web blog:

…the media found Paris keeps repeating the term, “That’s Hot!” over and over again to whatever questions journalists or paparazzi ask her. No one knows she was doing it intentionally until one day; the media found out she is trying to trademark the term, “That’s Hot!”

Like most of Paris’s stupid plans, this one fails. No one can trademark two simple English words. However, this leads me wondering, is it possible to create a lot of links with the same anchor text to my blog?

Most bloggers don’t have a PR6+ blog, and most of us aren’t going to invest a lot of money to build links. Are there any other alternatives?

One possibility is that you can leave comments on “Do-follow” blogs using your favorite anchor text to link to your site. Hence, if Paris Hilton is a blogger, she will use “That’s Hot!” to link to her blog whenever possible. However, this strategy is not only rude, but the hosting blog may not publish your comment. A “Do-follow” blog does not mean the blog owner has to publish everything. It also makes you look stupid too (Just like Paris).

Another strategy is to change your name to your favorite anchor text for comment. For example, if I am targeting “Make money online”, I will use “Make money online” as my name instead of “Johnny Cash” when I leave a comment. If “Make money online” is part of my blog title or subtitle, this will even make more sense. By applying this technique, not only you will get an inbound link for you comments, but you will also get a link to your blog using your favorite text.

I think there’s a line between comments and comment spam. I think I would delete a comment from “Refinance your home!” or whatever, until my blog was about finance. But leaving good comments on other blog can be a great way to build traffic.

Primary of business thing

July 11, 2008

Having your own business is good. Of course, you are your own boss. You control your time and finances. But if you are an employee, you have to follow rules.Bosses that have mood wings to deal with. You have to meet deadlines and competing to other employees to be ahead. Competitions are everywhere.Sometimes, you want to buy time if possible just to be on time. But what’s your other options? Of course, to own a business.

It’s not about having big.If you have a budget why not? But for now, you can have it as a sideline.First, check your budget and identify what you can do about it. Then, you can now choose which business do you want to incline with. Have a plan. Make a feasibility studies. You can include which product are you in,do a research about this business, your target market, date you want to start, and your target income. You can also include your financial computations. And there it goes, you can now start.

Having a business also have ups and downs. You have to be positive and strong in dealing it. Remember, your business lies in you. There’s no boss to take care of it but you.You can ask advises to an expert or find a good mentor. In that way, there’s someone to guide you and uplift you if you are down. Have a good disposition, be positive, focus and the rest is in God’s will.

Online Selling

July 9, 2008

I was cleaning our closets the other day and I had to sort all the clothes and separated those we still can use from those that we can part with. While doing this, I kind of did an inventory of clothes that I still can wear and still fit me. There were only a few items left as I have outgrown most of my clothes. I haven’t gotten back to my pre-pregnancy weight so I will have to make room for new clothes.

With this in mind, I needed to raise money to buy new clothes. Since I do occasional online selling whenever I have to unload stuff, I decided to sell the old clothes online. In this way, I can get rid of the old things and at the same time, save enough money to buy new things. It’s no secret that life is getting difficult everyday so it is fitting that we save money and raise it from other resources.

I was able to sell a few items and some of my son’s clothes I also put up for bidding. The bid starts at a small price so that I can catch the attention of prospective buyers. So far, I haven’t saved enough money but I’ll get there in no time.

Busy? Or Working?

July 6, 2008

PimpYourWork had a great quote the other day about looking busy and accomplishing more. It’s worth sharing with you all, since one of the hardest things about working for oneself is keeping on task. Especially with ‘net based businesses… it’s so easy to get off-topic!

Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing.

Thomas Alva Edison

If we stay focused, we can accomplish more!
