Starting a Business
June 26, 2008
My husband and I have been thinking of a good business for quite a while. Right now, we’re both employed in a private company but it would be great if we can start up our own business.
We are still discussing which type of business to open so that we can save money for its capital. Of course, we have to do studies and plan which will work for us and how much money we need to start it up. It will also help to check if there’s a market for the business we intend to open. The location is also a factor to ensure that there are prospective patrons.
A business is not easily started. A thorough study and plan need to be conducted first. It is no joke to put up capital and to lose it in the end if one is not careful. In our case, it might take a few more years before we can start our own business but we’ll definitely save up for it. For now, we can check the market and find out first which one will work for us best.
Let’s Multiply!
June 22, 2008
Aside from eBay, there are lots of websites that you can use to sell your goodies. I think Multiply is getting popular not just as a social networking but also as a place where you can post all the stuff you may want to sell.
I joined the Multiply bandwagon to sell when my baby was still in my tummy. FYI: he’s now 9 months old. Sigh! I didn’t realize that selling online is much harder than having a physical store. You have to be online 24/7 to answer people’s queries about your stuff. Well, I must say that it’s also fun to sell online. Technology at its best! Yeah!
By the way, I’m a reseller of baby products, feeding bottles, diapers, etc. All of them are related to my not-yet-been-born son back then. It’s such a great feeling that in my own way I get to help those people who don’t have access to some of the world’s greatest baby products in the market. Plus, I also get advices from other mommies the do’s and don’ts of taking care of my baby. I get to meet lots of interesting people, their life stories and earn all at the same time.
Isn’t it fun!?
Using technology to my advantage
June 21, 2008
It is so hard being a SAHM or a stay-at-home mom. Actually, it’s much harder if you’re a first-time mom like me! I have to take care of my baby 24/7, the only time that I have for myself is when I have to eat, bathe and of course, sleep. It adds up to my burden that I don’t have my own money. Not a single penny in my pocket, much worse, in my bank account. I know hubby gives me my own allowance (separate from our monthly expense, yey!) but it’s different when you have something you can call your “own” hard-earned money.
I stayed sad and penny-less for a couple of months until I came across a forum regarding online opportunities. I told myself, why not give it a try. As an IT graduate, finding an online work is as easy as 1-2-3! I often ask for an invite of my potential clients after seeing my work experience in the IT industry. Ka-ching! Ka-ching!
I earned $100 in just a week of sitting in front of my PC and taking care of my baby at the same time. Now, I’m earning more because I have 3 online work at the same time. Yey! More ka-ching! ka-ching!
So to my fellow SAHM, your hard-earned-money-for-shopping is just a click away. But be careful to online scammers okay? Goodluck mommies!
Chocolates and employment
June 21, 2008
I have been making and selling chocolates on and off for about 3 years now. The idea came about when I was craving for a single piece of bite-size, good quality chocolate and I could not find any so I figured why not make some! Oddly enough, I am not a chocolate lover that is why I was only looking for a single piece of chocolate…why waste an entire bar if I will not eat it.
My chocolates were very simple and very affordale and I was selling them in schools and small shops. Business was good but chocolate-making does take a lot of hours and energy to make. It would take me about 3 to 4 hours to finish 200 pieces and I would make them around the wee hours of the night after my regular work. So chocolate-making became my “in-between jobs” job…I would sell my chocolates if I was out of work.
If you will ask me, “What are you doing right now?” I would answer “Selling chocolates”, you will know that currently I am part of under “Self-employed”…
ChaCha-ing and making money!
June 18, 2008
I was a bit leary when I first heard of this human search engine that you could become and actually make some money at but I figured why not give it a try and I am so glad I did! In the past two weeks I have logged in and out of the computer and made over $200.00. The concept is easy, you apply to become a ChaCha guide and then once you take an assessment test and are offered the job you are up and running. If you are good at searching for things on the internet, this job is for you. You are paid 0.20 a text and people text in with questions that pop up to you on your computer. You research it quickly and send them back an answer. I work two or three hours a day and the pay is quick via a debit card or you can have a check mailed to you once a month. If you want to sign up, I would be happy to sponser you. Just go to www.ChaCha.com and click on the being a guide at the bottom of the page. Add my email to the sponser part of the application and I will be happy to help you all along the way. my email is kylegracen@yahoo.com I hope you take advantage of this opportunity as I have found it to pay the extra for all my gas! That little debit card sure does come in handy!
Side Project Priorities
June 17, 2008
Some recent frustrations at the “day job” have gotten me thinking about our secondary income streams, and the percentage of our income from the regular job and side work. For me, my regular job pays the bills and the side project is funding itself, with a trickle of extra income. I try not to count on that extra cash, though, since I’m still getting started and the business’ profits and expenses vary quite a bit from month to month.
I try to budget my time and resources to prioritize my main job, since I rely much more heavily on that. But I also don’t want to ignore an opportunity to market my small project, or let unfinished work build up there.
So, is your side business still a hobby? Is it bringing in a profit? And how do you split your time between day job and side business?
Selling used items
June 17, 2008
I admit I am a very impulsive buyer. Not only that, I do not go home empty-handed. I make it a point that every time I go to the mall, I buy something… anything. If I go home without even a small item in hand, I feel depressed. And having two children now, I always buy something for both of them. But then, when I looked at our too crowded closet, I realized that I’ve wasted so much money on things that are either not usable by my kids, or those that they simply just don’t have interest in. There are things we may find cute for our little angels, but they don’t.
So, when I tried to de-clutter our cabinets, I ended up with so much “junk” (not actually those that are fitting for the trash can, but those that just end lying around the house, untouched). I asked my kids’ nanny if she could help me sort the stuff out, and I suddenly thought of putting these on sale. I put up a couple of tables where I could set up the items that I would be selling in our garage one Saturday, and I hung a sign on the gate announcing the sale. My profit for the day was not at all bad. Now, I have extra cash to buy things again for my little ones. And when they get tired of the toys, and outgrow their clothes, I will put the stuff again on sale.
Online Opportunities
June 16, 2008
Just last month, I searched for online jobs to help augment the family income. There are a lot of bills to pay, endless budgeting to do and an extra income will definitely go a long way.
I have signed up for paid-to-click sites or PTC and so far I earned just a little because the number of ads for me to click vary from day to day. And the rate is from .01 to .02c. It really is not much but then, since I spend a lot of time online, I gave it a try and I am working on reaching the minimum payout.
Then there’s paid blogging. I have heard about this from a friend and she’s even considering making it a full-time job because she earns a lot. I got some tips from her and submitted my blog for review. Sadly, it was rejected due to a number of reasons. I can resubmit it for evaluation in three months time so I’ll surely give it another try.
There are a lot of ways now to earn extra and the best thing is that we can do it at the comfort of our homes. We just have to be discerning in choosing which one works for us. So far, these are my sidelines but I’ll continue to search for income-generating opportunities.
dataentrydotcom
June 15, 2008
i have just signed up for this data entry program for $49.95. it’s a gamble. a big risk i must say. i have done some research about it and only found 1 article saying that it is not a scam. but how can that be reliable? only one source cannot exactly give you the assurance.
they did give me links of companies to join. however, one of them is not available here in the philippines. so i joined the other company. for free. i tried to promote some of their products but somehow, the website is having some problems. the management made a note that they are fixing it and will be up again within 24 hours.
i really hope that this is not a scam.
