This post will incorporate a little about what I talked about in the post before this one. If you’re looking to profit off of blogging, but can’t seem to get past say the 100 hit mark, you shouldn’t be discouraged. Think of it this way, 100 people a day are reading what you have to say, it’s like you standing in a room, with 100 people sitting down listening to you. Doesn’t sound so bad now does it? This is basically the top of the hill, just work on your content, and giving your users great material and great reasons to come to your site. Do some of the things I talked about in the last entry, and make your current audiences user experience better, so they’ll tell others. Ask them to link you on their sites, and create a link page on yours to link back to them. There are dozens of ways to get over this hump, just hang in there and keep at it. Building on a small audience.

Have a small blog/website/business? Have a small audience? Want to easily build on that audience? You can. Here are a few tips and ideas to help you do that. You could use the a tell-a-friend strategy, where you get your users to invite 3 friends to the service, and when it’s confirmed, they get special privileges on the site, or free product usage, or a free small service. Or one of my favorites, that no one really thinks about, is to simply ask your users to spread the word. You’d be surprised how many people would do it. You could also collect addresses and send your users business cards to hand out to friends, and associates, so you’re not only marketing online, but you’re marketing offline in dozens of locations around the country or even the world. Keeping track of the stats of your website is key to any business. You definitely want and need to know how many people are visiting your site at any given time. Here are a few of my favorite ways to track your visitors, keywords, referrals, pages viewed, unique hits, etc.

1. MINT - I love this script, it is elegant and works like a charm, makes stat tracking painless and enjoyable.

2. Reinvigorate - This is still in private beta, and works and looks great. You you can apply a beta account.

Nowadays, almost every domain you want is taken and probably out of your budget if you want to purchase it. So improvisation is key. Blogging: A few tips on getting more RSS Subscribers

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a way for people to read your site content without actually going to your site. Users can actually just add your RSS feed to a service or reader, and get updated whenever you post anything new. This way, people can keep up with way more than one site at a time. So how do you get people to subscribe to your RSS feed? Here are a few things I have learned:

Use FeedBurner, FeedBurner is a service that allows you to have one address for your RSS feed, and when people click it, it gives them the option of putting it into a large number of readers. It basically streamlines the process and makes it easier and painless.

If your site is brand new, do not put one of those “feedcounter” chicklets on it, subconsciously, if someone sees a feedcounter reading 0, or 3, or even 10, they will assume the site is unpopular, and that the content isn’t that great. So wait until you have at least in the 80’s 90’s or 100’s before you put one on to show off your readership.

Put the link to the RSS feed at the top of the page, and possibly make a nice colorful button for it. People will be more likely to click and subscribe, and less likely if it’s somewhere else, like at the footer of the page, or at the bottom of the sidebar.
