I call this the simple business tip because you would think that everyone would know this beginner and advanced alike, but when I look at Ebay seller’s auctions I have to wonder what their smoking.

The point of a business is usually to make money and you do that by making a profit from what you sell. If your expenses are more than the money you are bringing in then you are LOSING money not making it.

On Ebay while doing some general surfing in the children’s clothes section I was shaking my head at the absolute naivety of some of the seller’s. If you don’t know, children’s clothes is a great selling point on Ebay and some people make it their entire business.

Let’s say you have 10 new or even used outfits in Excellent condition and they are cute and colorful? They will be fought over and you can get upwards of $150 or more depending on certain things such as pictures taken, the amount of info given, the looks of the items themselves and other such factors.

However my point today is that many seller’s who sell items like the ones mentioned above will use the feature plus that Ebay offers because it gives them more exposure and is one of the biggest reasons they can get a good to great sale.

However I have seen people using this feature and they have one outfit they are selling for $4.99. I don’t care much exposure your going to get, if that ONE outfit isn’t a celebrity child $500 outfit it is not going to sell for $100 by itself.

The problem with people that do this is that they are losing money and I wonder if they notice it. Ebay’s fees are steep and getting steeper. So to list this item that IF it sell’s won’t get more than $10 you will be incurring a list of charges:

Listing fee: $0.20 or $0.35 depending on starting bid. Lower price is given if starting at $0.99 or lower.

Are you going to add bold $1, highlight $5, border $3? The featured is $19.99. So that is almost $30 in fees to sell something under $10? Options like these should only be  used on the higher priced auctions.
