The internet has given way to lots of ideas and just about anyone can create a business on it. You just need to be creative. Sure you can do what the other guy is doing and try to compete but if there are fifty businesses all selling the same thing you will be lucky if anyone comes to YOU. When I say be created I’m talking about a website like SmellyPoop. It was created by a woman scorned when the idea came to her after she sent poop to her now ex-boyfriend. She started the business and I have even seen her on tv talking about. How’s that for success. She allows you to send poop to anyone from an ex to a soon to be ex-boss.

A little disgusting sure, but with a little dog poo she created and maintains a business that makes her÷šenough money that she could quit her job and do from home full-time. Think up ideas, and just because no one has done it yet, doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work. Before you rush out and get that domain name be aware that you can and will be sued by large companies such as Google and Yahoo! if you decide to play cute with the names. A business that not many of my friends know about or even heard of is the business of buying and selling domain names. You can get a domain name very cheaply but cheaper isn’t always better. You should get a name at a reputable online business. Just because someone is selling you one for $1.50 doesn’t mean it’s a great deal in the long run.

How people make a business of domains is to buy it cheaply and sell it for a profit, just like real estate. Some on the lower end of the game will park it and let it make money on it’s own. You make money when people click on the links just like Google’s Adsense.

It is a place to buy, sell and park domain names and you can see what domains people are selling, how much they want for them and all the info such as links and page rank if any. Some sell names they just bought yesterday in hopes that it’s a name that fits a persons needs and they will want it and be willing to pay a little bit extra for it.

Then there are the domains that come with hundreds of incoming links and page ranks of 6 and even 8. As well as hundreds and even thousands of visitors daily. For instance this domain called uyduizle. Most people wouldn’t want it because the name is strange hard to spell and a little long. Many now want it though because it comes with over 90,000 visitors, more than 150,000 page views and more than 1200 incoming links. It is now valuable and the owner is looking at a pay day of at least $8,000.

Taking Payments On Your Business Website

If you have started your online business and you are thinking about taking payment then be aware that not all processors are the same. You can find yourself with payment processor who has little to no protection at all and you can find yourself easily scammed and losing money.

Look for someone who has good encryption or even call and speak directly with someone who can explain to you how they do and plan in the future to combat fraud and keep your accounts and business safe.

Starting A Business What Not To Do

Today I recalled a story I had seen on the news a few months ago. I remembered it because it was a husband and wife that started a business. I don’t see it as much a cautionary tale as a just use common sense tale.

A husband and wife team decided to create a business online. What did they sell you ask? Clothes, magazines, electronics? No. These two geniuses decided to get money from the world of sex. Nothing wrong with that some might say. The problem is the “females” portrayed in cyberspace were all children. That’s right. None of them over the age of 18, if they were even that close at all.

The police took down these scum and seized computers and anything else that might help with the case. When they checked it turns out this monthly subscription underage sex site had more than 40,000 members. Yes there really are that many sickos out there, and these sickos slash morons all paid via credit card, so I doubt it will be long before they are looking out through a jail cell.

Whatever you do in business just try to make sure it’s legal. The above story there was no way those people could think that was ok or even NOT against the law, but some business moves are more subtle and you will have to talk to a lawyer and officials in your city to make sure that you are following the law. Also PAY your taxes. Men and women bigger in power and much richer than you have been taken down because of that one little fact that most seem to “forget” to do.

Just remember, Heidi Fleiss wasn’t taken down because she was running a prostitution ring hidden in an escort business. Dropship Your Online Business

If you have never heard of dropshipping I will explain how it works. Dropshipping is when you sell products either at auction sites or from your own online business. A customer makes a purchase and then you go to your dropshipping company and put in the order. The company sends the item to the customer with an invoice that can most of the time be customized to your business logo. The customer never knows about the dropshipping company.

Here are the pros and cons of using such a service.

Pros

• Save money - Most of the time you are buying products at a very reduced price.
• You don’t have to handle any products
• No storing and trying to get a seperate building just for products
• Easy to sell most items

Cons

• You can easily find yourself with a bad company selling you shoddy products
• Some dropshippers charge a monthly or yearly fee which can be extremely high
• Sometimes it can take weeks as long as 4 weeks or longer for a customer to recieve a product and that blame will fall on you, since they dont know you dropshipped the item.
• If the product is defective or broken during shipping you have to deal with a middle man (the dropshippers) since you don’t handle the actual product.

However I have found a new company that appears to be legitimate and doesn’t charge large membership fees like some dropshippers. They only take 3.5% of your profit.

The company is called Shopster and it is new and still in beta mode but I think it will quickly catch on, especially for small business owners who sell things on Ebay and other auctions sites.

Abandoned Dreams and Ideas

Two months ago before I ever discovered the website Paperbackswap, I took a look around my book filled room and thought of creating a website where people can trade books with others for free, which is what Paperbackswap does.
